Petrographical description

Petrographical description is a basic technique of a fundamental investigation stage. The final result of this analysis is petrographical description of rock samples and it becomes basic data for classification of rock types distributed in investigation area and determination of their location and boundary, as well as design of geological mapping. Also it gives possibilities to describe and conclude geological formation of that area and origin and alteration of rocks.

Depending on customer’s request we perform brief and complete petrographical descriptions.

Complete petrographical description includes:

1)      Rock name

2)      Minerals composition of the rock by their content (as main, secondary, second and accessory minerals)

3)      Description of each mineral by order of content. Identification of all optical features of mineral, which are possible to determine microscopically.

4)      Description of secondary alteration minerals by order of formation.

5)      Description of peculiarities of microtexture  and microstructure  of the rock.

6)      Conclusion: To summarize all identifications as formation order of minerals, formation and alteration of the rock.

Brief petrographical description includes:

1)      Rock name

2)      Minerals composition of the rock by their content (as main, secondary, second and accessory minerals)

3)      Brief description of main and specific minerals of the rock.

4)      Brief description of peculiarities of microtexture  and microstructure  of the rock.

5)      Conclusion: Briefly summarize identifications as formation order of minerals, formation and alteration of the rock.

If necessary (according to customer`s request), following techniques are used additionally for the petrographical description:

·         Feodorov table

·         Petrochemical calculation

·         Counting of minerals.
